The Writings on the Wall
After clearing the air, Zane and Theo joined the others once they too had showered and were no longer wearing their fight gear. Thankfully, when walking back to the library, everyone could see that Zane was back to his old self and wisely thought it best not to mention it. Theo was thankful for this but no one more than Zane, who already felt like a tool for acting the way he had. But Theo had understood the second Zane had told him about his demon, knowing that it was more than likely the driving force behind Zaneâs paranoid and jealous mind.
So, instead of another unwanted heated discussion, the teens all tucked into the refreshments that were shortly brought in and instead spent the next hour chatting about the gruelling fighting lesson theyâd just had.
Everyone encouraged each other, giving praise where it was due but mostly to Janie, who everyone thought needed it after what had happened down in the prison. Because no matter what they were all going through right in that moment, not one of them had been used the way she had, when having her body and mind taken over by such a powerful demon. So, it was no wonder that she was sceptical when trying to bring out her powers.
But Theo knew that if they were to accomplish what was asked of them in the next few days, then trying to get her past it was the best thing for her. And being brave enough to go in the Void would be the first step. Besides, Theo agreed with Zane, when he said that the demonic hand thingy had been kick ass! At this she blushed, but at least she was smiling. Even if Theo would notice every now and again the way she looked down at her missing limb as if seeing the ghost of that smoky demonic hand still there.
Having something like that happen to her must have messed with her head as Theo couldnât imagine what it must have been like for her. Being orphans, they had all grown up different from the rest, that much was clear. But for Janie, he couldnât help feeling as though sheâd had that little bit extra weight to carry with her differences being on display for the world to see. Then again, what did he know, as the others might have been whole bodied but that didnât mean they didnât all have their secrets. Take Ivan for example, Theo knew that something bad must have happened to him growing up to be so averse to violence.
Theo almost felt overwhelmed by the deep and heavy emotions of his fellow classmates crushing down on his own soul. To the point where he was torn between taking each of them aside and trying to help ease their pain or running into his room, closing the door and drowning it all out with the sound of some heavy rock band blasting through his kick ass stereo system.
